Michael Bush is a running back for the Oakland Raiders, a professional football team playing in the NFL. Bush was drafted in 2007 in the fourth round by the Raiders once his college career with the Louisville Cardinals was over.
Playing in the Big East conference in college, Bush was projected as a Heisman Trophy candidate in 2006, when he broke his leg in the third quarter of the Cardinals first game of the season against the Kentucky Wildcats. Finished for the season and his college career over, Bush underwent surgery for his leg that was broken in two places.
Before this unfortunate incident, Bush was a star running back in college. In 2005, he led the Big East in rushing and all-purpose yardage and led the entire nation in scoring with an average of 14.4 pts. per game. That same year he led the Cardinals to the Gator Bowl versus a Michael Vick led Virginia Tech squad. Bush rushed the ball 16 times for 94 yards, but his Cardinals fell short, 35-24, after Vick led his team to 22 unanaswered points in the fourth quarter.
Projected to go high in the 2007 Draft prior to his broken leg, Bush's stock fell because of his injury. Many pundits felt Bush was a top twenty pick if not for his broken leg. Teams did shy away from him at the draft, allowing Bush to slide down into the fourth round before the Raiders nabbed him. Now officially a Raider, but because his leg was still bothering him, Bush spent the entire 2007 NFL season on injured reserve. Bush finally took the field in 2008, and now, with RB mate Darren McFadden, the Raiders hope to have a running back duo that will carry them for the years to come.
